THE PEOPLE BEHIND OUR LABELS

The process of coming up with our unique art for each bottling starts the moment we receive the fruit for that wine. After making, tasting, and watching the journey of the grapes from vine to barrel, we finally start to have a concept unique to that wine. Then the search begins for one talented Artist to take our idea and turn it into reality. This is one of the most rewarding parts of creating Approachment wines. Brainstorming with the artists and watching their talent take the original concept to new levels, while adding their own unique touch to the design.

RUTH ARMITAGE

Ruth Armitage paints abstract and non objective work inspired by people and places of personal significance. Educated as an English teacher, her work often begins with a title, which crystalizes her idea. Expressive color and line help weave a narrative that can be obvious or mysterious.

Ruth’s award winning work has earned her signature membership in the National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, San Diego Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, California Watercolor Association and the Northwest Watercolor Society, and the Watercolor Society of Oregon. She was the recipient of the American Watercolor Society’s Bronze Medal of Honor in April, 2023.

“Beginning with the title, I focus on either a warm or cool palette to begin, making color choices intuitively. I sometimes finish with calligraphic line that begins as letterforms and sometimes evolves into pattern. Often a work demands more than one rendition to arrive at its deepest meaning. I am not simply wandering; rather, I’m focused in my exploration, keeping a destination in mind.”

I am a 25 year old Costa Rican artist living in Washington, DC. I migrated to the United States when I was 12 years old with my parents and little sister leaving everything behind for better opportunities. I am proud of my heritage and immigrant background, which have inspired my passion for immigrants’ rights and stories. My identity and experiences heavily inspire my work as, through abstract paintings, I feature the beauty of my community and my country.

I am also passionate about women’s rights and representation and, thus, focus a lot of my pieces on women’s body positivity and self acceptance. I truly believe there’s beauty in the human body and in people’s stories, and use my art to encourage self love and pride in one’s heritage and culture.

Russian born and US based.
I take my love for nature and express it through acrylic.
My background in Architectural design and classical art serves as a foundation for my work. My inspiration combines natural, cosmic and psychedelic patterns to create deeply colorful scenes.

At the heart of my artistic philosophy lies the convergence of the tangible and the abstract, where the realms of natural beauty, cosmic wonders, and psychedelic motifs intermingle. My art is deliberately open to interpretation — a conscious decision to engage viewers in a dialogue with the artwork.
